31 Days of Digital Mixtapes, Day Eighteen:
The Softer Side of Punk Rock
I love punk rock music. If it were up to me, I probably would have a majority of these daily mixes filled with different punk music. That would get boring to some folks though, so I’ve been mixing it up. There are some times though where you want to hear some of that good old punk rock ethos, but at lower decibels. Fearless Records used to make great “Punk Goes” compilations (not so much these days), so I’ve always been interested to see punk artists out of their element. The thing about an all-acoustic punk mix shows that these bands aren’t one-trick ponies. Enjoy!
Also, want to apologize for the delay in posting this weekend. I’ve been watching baseball playoffs. Now that my Tigers are out, I can focus a bit more.
31 Days of Digital Mixtapes, Day One:
Government Shutdown Edition
Well, it’s come to this. I must say I wasn’t planning on coming out swinging with my mixtapes. One, because I risk the chance of alienating some folks; and two, because I had a really fun mixtape already planned. The good news is, the planned mixtape works other days as well, so it will definitely see the light of day this month.
With how much people are talking about the government and passing around blame for it happening, I just kept finding myself disgusted. This isn’t a Left, Center, or Right issue for me, it’s an American issue. And today, our government refused to put on their big boy pants and work together as a team for the benefit of the American people…you know, those people who elected you into office in the first place. Hopefully, the stalemate ends sooner than later and Congress gets back to the business at hand: working together to advance the country for the greater good of the folks who live here.
Until that happens though, I’ve got this playlist. Given the nature of my current mood, it’s predominantly loud punk rock music, but there’s a splash of hip hop, folk, ska, and reggae thrown in for good measure.
After listening to this mix, use the comments below to let me know what songs you’d add to your “Government Shutdown” playlist.
Should I use headphones at work for this playlist?
Yes. There’s some swearing in several songs. You’ve been warned.
