31 Days of Digital Mixtapes, Day Seventeen:
Frank Turner Tells You to Live Your Life
Today is the first of several single artist mixtapes I have planned for the rest of the month. I’m starting with Frank Turner for several reasons, but the main reason is how his music makes me feel when I listen to it. I’ve been listening to Frank since the days of Love Ire & Song. I haven’t really appreciated his music as much as I should be until last year after seeing him at Riot Fest 2012 in Chicago. He absolutely blows me away. His perfect mixture of songwriting, passion, charisma, and singing ability is enough to put him in my Top 5 musicians/bands of all time list.
Another reason I really like Frank Turner is that I’ve been able to use his music to make me more comfortable with the more unpleasant realities of life, namely my mortality. Since I built this playlist (well, one that’s a bit longer than this ten song mixtape), I’ve had a new perspective about all of this, which is great because I haven’t had any of the sleepless anxiety-ridden evenings that I’ve had off and on since I turned. I can’t do anything about my death, so I might as well enjoy my family, friends, and life while I’m here, right?
